A Quick Rundown On Affiliate Marketing For The Uninitiated
Friday, April 30th, 2010What is all the buzz about affiliate marketing? What’s it all about and why should I be interested? While many people know that affiliate programs are basically ways that anybody can make money online without having a product of their own to sell, a surprising number of people don’t take advantage of these programs.
One of the reasons why everyday bloggers and website owners do not consider becoming affiliates is because they mistakenly believe that affiliate marketing has to be a fulltime job. It can be and it can be a lucrative job at that, but it doesn’t have to be. When you get your free affiliate ID, you don’t have to meet any sales quotas or deadlines. All you have to do (and even this is optional) is copy and paste a bit of code into your blog posts or on the sidebar of your blog or website and hope for the best.
Even if you don’t make a sale, having the information about a product or service there on your page enhances the content of your site. For example, if you are a book lover and write a blog about the latest books you have read, you can join the affiliate network of one of the giant booksellers online. When you write a review about the latest book you have read, all you have to do is logon to your affiliate site and get a widget for that book. You copy and paste it as HTML code in the sidebar and your readers will see a picture of the book cover and additional information about the book.
Another thing you can do is sell products that are related to your subject. If you write about books, you can sell Ereaders. Now and then you may want to write a post about these ereaders, just to catch your readers’ attention, but you don’t need to make it a hard sell advertising campaign.
Once you begin to participate in affiliate programs, you will probably discover that you’ve got the affiliate “bug” and will be inspired to further promote your blog. Every blogger wants traffic, but without the extra push of the possibility of being rewarded for your efforts, you may not be motivated to learn how to increase traffic to your blog.
Once you discover the many free or cheap traffic generating tools that you can get online, you will feel silly for not using them before. If you’re like most bloggers, you probably have many accounts with social media sites like Facebook, Twitter and others.
Because you are pressed for time, you probably forget to add content to these accounts. Did you know that there are free services you can make use of to automatically add content from your blog to these sites and many others? Once you’ve set up your accounts, it takes less than a minute to distribute your content to dozens of social bookmarking sites and social networks.
Are you convince now that affiliate marketing is for you? It’s not just there for affiliate marketers – it’s there for everyone who has a blog or a website. There really is no better or cheaper way to enrich and enhance your site than with related affiliate links. Since it costs nothing but a few minutes of your time, why not give it a try? Once you get the bug, you will wonder why you didn’t try it before. Who knows, it might even turn into a career!
Do you know that it is possible to work from home? Affiliate marketing is only one of popular jobs you can do in the comfort of your own house.
