Cutting edge Information technology set-up
Information Technology (IT) is the study, practice, and management of computers, networking systems, communications, and software. I think we can all agree that IT is a very wide category pertaining to a variety of technology. It pertains to everything from computers to mobile communications.
Today, understanding IT and its functions is more important than ever. With the rapid growth in technology, we have no choice but to become inundated with the latest and greatest gadgets. Technology as a whole has pulled our society out of the Stone Age and into 2010. Technology has changed everything from the way we watch TV to how we buy food.
Since technology has completely changed the way we function in society, we are forced to place professionals in the roles of managing our systems. IT professionals help to solve any problems, glitches, or malfunctions in our technologies. They are also a very knowledgeable group of people. They know all the best products, the easiest and most efficient ways to hook up systems, and run software.
IT started back in the early 90s when the Internet and home computer usage began to rise. By the late 90s into the 2000s, just about every home and business in America had a computer. With the vast growth and dependency on the use of cell phones, computers, and email, technology had nowhere to grow but up.
The Internet and mobile communications really hit the nail on the head. The Internet sparked email, websites, blogging, online businesses and shopping. With the ability to talk to anyone in the world for free using a VOIP phone service like Skype, it has made our world smaller. Palm pilots, Blackberries, and Smartphones have made our lives easier with the ability to control our entire worlds in the palms of our hands.
As great as all this technology is, it doesn’t come without its challenges. While we are enjoying technology and all its benefits, some IT professionals work around the clock to make sure servers function and are backed up properly, to protect our systems from catching and spreading viruses or trojans, and to keep us up to date with the latest programs and applications. They also design websites, networking systems and set up databases.
Organizations cannot function today without cell phones and computers. In fact, no organization is even considered valuable without technology. As a result, millions of jobs have been created to meet the needs and demands of organizations that need a professional and knowledgeable IT staff to maintain their information systems.
It’s probably safe to say that we’ve all thought about what the future holds for our society. What new technological advances are coming down the pike? What will we think of next? Will the new gadget make our lives easier, or more difficult?
