Get A Few Helpful Tips On How To Land A Summer Job!

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

These days many a student is putting a diploma on the wall and contemplating entering the working world. There’s only one thing they didn’t count on when they began their Associates or Bachelors, and that’s the state of the employment market. Make sure you look into a online college.

The only problem is the graduate is now facing one of the worst economies in several decades. If the former student wants to walk out of school and into a job, he or she is going up against not only a lot of fellow graduates, but those laid off, who not only have degrees, but experience. That said, finding a job is going to be tough.

Then again, there’s the old saying that when the going gets tough, the tough get going. As it happened, the employment site Monster.com has just released a series of tips to help the recent graduate become one of the newly employed. Here’s what they have to say:

Think Horizontally – Just because you have a degree in nursing means you should look for a job in a doctor’s office or hospital. School, cruise lines, law enforcement agencies and more also employ nurses. Get on Google and do some research. Also make contact with the local division of your professional society. Doing so can as much as quadruple the potential number of companies you could work at. Another thing that helps is a courses online.

Not Only Target a Company, But Do Some Research On It – The reason for this is to help design an introductory package about yourself. While your resume may be fairly straightforward, use your research to develop a cover letter explaining how your skills, experience and education will benefit the company. Don’t be afraid to be a bit creative here either. For instance, if while going to school you worked at a library, that means you have great secondary research skills.

Network – You actually should have started this while still in school, but it’s never too late. If you go to a professional society meeting, get as many business cards you can. If a family member is in your profession, don’t be afraid to ask them for advice. Build a book of business cards, and then maintain regular contact with these people. Now that you’re in the working world, it’s time to start making phone calls and typing letters. Your contact may not be hiring, but could then refer you to someone who just might be. That’s another name for the network.

Keep A Positive Attitude – Everyone realizes these are tough times. The difference between the people who succeed and the one’s who don’t are the successful ones never let it get to them. Recruiters can sense negativity before you enter their office, and that’s a big strike against the recruit. In other words, if the news on the tube is bad, turn it off and get to writing more introductory and follow-up letters. A positive attitude yields positive results.

Stay Busy At All Costs – Companies don’t like people who are idle. They would love to see people working on an online degree. While you’re under-employed go out and work on a public cause. Get a part time job to pay the bills. Be productive, because that’s what recruiters want. Get more information about online education.

Military Members Can Transition To Civilian Life More Easily With An Online Degree Program!

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

Ever since 9/11, our military members have been working hard to create a safer world. Now more than ever, military members may have a transition to civilian life that may not be easy. The extremely structured world of the military may cause civilian life to seem too unstructured and casual, causing problems for soldiers who are trying to adjust to more freedom than they are used to.

If a military member wants to create a sense of balance between the structure of the military and the freedom of the civilian world, a good place to start might be in an online college. The new GI Bill offers military members an opportunity to get a higher education once they separate from active duty, or even while they are serving. Especially if a soldier is deployed overseas, working on an online degree may help them feel connected to the world at home. If you need more information about military degrees, look on the internet.

There is no doubt that each military service man or woman has duties to attend to that are vital to our national security. What they might not know is that an online degree could help them in their military roles, as well as helping to prepare them for the job market outside. For example, a soldier who works in the motor pool might want to pursue an online degree in automotive technology and management. The combination of real world experience and education will make them a great potential employee in the civilian world.

If a service member chooses to begin their online education before they separate from active duty, it may give them a head start in the civilian world. Not only will they keep a foot in the civilian world while they are on active duty, but they will be that much further ahead in their degree program for their new career field. If a soldier begins work on his or her online degree a year or two before they enter the civilian world, it will take them a much shorter period of time to finish the degree than a soldier who didn’t get a head start.

Even though the military has its own set of rewards for a job well done, a great sense of personal pride can come from completing an online degree. Having pride in something outside of the military may be helpful for a service member when transitioning to civilian life. An added bonus is gaining the inside knowledge that will help them find a good civilian job.

An online degree is, by its very nature, quite different than the learning process in the military. An online college leaves the individual to work on their own time, rather than in a group or classroom setting. Learning how to learn on an individual basis may help a military man or woman ease into the civilian world with less difficulty. There is an abundance of information about military degree on the web.

The flexibility of an online degree program makes it an ideal vehicle for military members. Because of the nature of their jobs, military men and women may work long and unpredictable hours. Online colleges allow military members to tailor the program to their schedule so they can attend to the responsibilities that the military demands of them.

Being able to balance the demands of a busy military career with the coursework of online school can be challenging. Self-confidence, work ethic and pride are three very real attributes that can be gained from military distance learning.

Increase In Student Attending College Attributed To Changes In Education!

Saturday, June 12th, 2010

Students might find online college programs and online degree pursuits more affordable with help, in a way, from healthcare reform. The recently approved healthcare reform package included what CBS News called “some of the most sweeping changes in history – helping students pay for college”.

The federal government is considered the largest source of financial aid, offering grants, loans and work study program offerings so that students with financial needs can more easily afford tuition. A rising number of students are reportedly enrolling in college, and online college programs particularly have become popular. Rising numbers of students are also looking for tuition assistance as a result of the economy, according to reports. News agencies report that through the education bill, the government plans to stop subsidies and backing for banks and other private lenders issuing student loans and make more tuition help available. If you need more information about online universities accredited, look on the internet.

The Obama student loan overhaul, as it’s been coined, over the course of 10 years is intended to save about $61 billion and give college graduation rates a boost, according to reports. Much of the money is to be invested in federal financial aid offerings, some of which might require servicing assistance from private lenders, news agencies report. Students who qualify for government Pell grants and Stafford and Perkins loans are to benefit from the change, as are community colleges.

The measure approved is actually known as the Health Care and Education Affordability Reconciliation Act of 2010. At the higher education level, healthcare reform and the education bill are connected in that the age limit for students covered by their parents’ health insurance increases to age 26, from 21, according to reports.

Traditional and online college students qualifying for Pell grants are to benefit from more than half of the $61 billion in savings, or $36 billion. Pell grants these days cover about 35 percent of the average student tuition, as compared with 77 percent a few decades ago, according to reports. Qualifying Pell grant applicants for the 2010-2011 academic year can each receive as much as $5,500 in tuition assistance and by 2019-2020 are to receive up to $5,900 apiece, The New York Times reported. Without the Obama student loan overhaul, qualifying students would have next year received a maximum $2,150 each, news agencies suggest.

Students don’t have to repay Pell grants the way they do loans, but students qualifying for the government’s Stafford and Perkins loans also are expected to benefit as a result of the Obama student loan overhaul. Colleges and universities award these loans to students with financial needs, and recipients are required to put 15 percent of their income to loan payments, The New York Times reported. Beginning in July 2014, Stafford and Perkins loan recipients only have to dedicate 10 percent of their income to loan payments, and loans can be forgiven after 20 years in instances where students pay the loans on a timely basis, The Times noted. There is an abundance of information about college online on the web.

The Obama student loan overhaul reportedly also sets aside $2 billion for job training programs at community colleges. It’s the first time the federal government provided direct aid to the community colleges, a college president told The Chronicle of Higher Education. President Obama himself has demonstrated support for online college offerings. During a talk in Detroit last year about investing in community colleges, he proposed adding $500 million in new online college classes as part of an overall investment intended by the year 2020 to add some 5 million new graduates, The Washington Post reported.

Online college programs and online degree programs are growing swiftly, in numbers as well as in subject areas. Obama’s proposal to add new graduates is part of what some have referred to as an “American Graduation Initiative”.

Financial Aid Is Available For Single Mothers!

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

Being a single mother is a tough job, and it’s made even tougher by the economic realities of the last few years. The last thing a single mother wants to do is to take a low-paying dead end job; the ideal job is one that pays well and allows advancement in the career field of their choice while still allowing a mom to be a mom. The best way to achieve that goal is through education. Read more about single mother grants.

Even though higher education may be the solution for moving away from economic hardship, it’s not always easy getting through college because college can be very expensive. When a budget is tight, higher education may seem like an expense that is only for those with lots of discretionary income. However, single mothers have an opportunity to help them get through college in the form of financial aid.

There are several types of financial aid that can help pay for college, including grants, scholarships and work-study programs. Any one of the three, or a combination of them, can be a major milestone in helping a single mother complete a college degree. Go online and learn more about grants for single moms.

One type of financial aid that is readily available is called a grant. A grant is awarded to students who meet the guidelines of the program and who can help the grant itself achieve its specific goals. A grant is not a loan; it does not need to be repaid. Private foundations, academic institutions, and even the federal government provide many types of grants to students so that they can complete their education. If a single mother applies for and is awarded a grant, it could be a major stepping stone to the achievement of a college degree, without the sacrifice of the family budget. The United States Congress recently made it easier for students applying for financial aid to get more money. They increased the size of the Pell Grant, one of the most well known government grants, to $5,500 per student for 2010, which is an increase of $500 from the 2009 budget.

$200 million more federal dollars were also allocated to the work-study program by Congress in the Recovery Act. This means that 133,000 more students will be able to participate in work-study programs through their college or university to help pay for their education. By providing this essential funding, Congress is allowing more opportunity for financial aid to single mothers who are trying to further their educational horizons.

Single mothers may also benefit from financial aid in the form of scholarships. Scholarships are usually awarded to a student based on their performance, such as academic achievement or athletic ability. However, many scholarships are based on a student’s situation or inclusion or interest in a certain group. Most states have some type of scholarship available to single parents. Scholarships are funded by a variety of groups or entities, including but not limited to, private businesses or organizations, non-profit groups, government agencies, or academic institutions. Many scholarship applications will require a student to fill out a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) because they may be need-based scholarships that require proof of financial eligibility.

One of the most important things to remember about financial aid is that it is a process with specific guidelines and deadlines. Missing an important component of the application or applying late may result in a rejection. Fortunately, universities and colleges have financial aid offices to help applicants through the sometimes lengthy and time-consuming process. It’s also important to remember that an applicant doesn’t need to limit themselves to only one type of financial aid. By applying for grants, scholarships and other forms of financial aid simultaneously, a single mother can greatly increase her chance of receiving ample help to pay for tuition, fees, and books.

A single mother can set the example she wants to for her children by using all the resources she has available for financing her education. Grants, scholarships, or other types of financial aid may be just what a single mother needs to help her achieve her goal of an online degree.

Financial Aid Is Readily Available For Online College!

Monday, June 7th, 2010

Some people work 40, 50, or even 60 hours a week to just keep a roof over their heads and food on the table. With those kinds of hours, people who might want to go to school may never have a chance, especially if they have to work a minimum-wage job. The cost of an education may be completely out of reach for them, particularly since education costs keep rising, with no end in sight. In fact, according to the College Board, last year it cost 6.5% more to go to school than the year before. People may need financial aid to get back to school.

Although inflation may be causing some people’s pocketbooks to take a beating, that doesn’t mean there’s no hope for going to school. Whether or not a student wants to attend an online college or a traditional university, there’s help available to defray the cost. There is more than $168 billion dollars out there for students to use to help cover the cost of tuition, fees, book, and even living expenses. Most people don’t know that about two-thirds of all students get help of some kind or another in the form of grants or scholarships. If you need more information about graduate school, look on the internet.

Even if you have to work many hours during the week, you can easily apply for financial aid in your down time, because most grants or scholarships can be applied for online. Organizations need to look at your basis of need, and often the first thing they want to see is a FAFSA. That’s the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. You can fill out and complete the entire application online. Many organizations use your FAFSA to discover whether or not you are eligible for grants or scholarships, but you only need to fill it out once per academic year.

Students who decide to go to school online are just as eligible for financial aid as students who go to a traditional university. The average financial aid benefit of $5,400 for a four year program at a public school can really help to cover costs. However, it’s much harder to get financial aid at an online school that is not accredited. The fact that many brick-and-mortar universities now offer online degrees can eliminate a lot of the worry about whether your school is accredited or not.

Once you’re decided on your school and the type of degree you’ll be seeking, you will need to make an estimate of how much financial aid you will need. Once you have an idea of your expenses, you can work towards finding financial aid. It’s a good idea to be creative; you needn’t look only at the financial aid offered through your school’s financial aid office. There are hundreds of grants and scholarships available online. Many of them are administered by the federal and state government.

Another place to keep in mind when looking for financial aid is your place of employment. Many companies recognize the benefits of having an educated work force. Another avenue to research is the charitable organizations in your community that fund grants and scholarships to local students. There is an abundance of information about scholarships and grants on the web.

There are also organizations that may not be large corporations, but smaller entities that have less money to give out. Don’t pass these by just because the award is smaller. Perhaps they only give out the grant or scholarship once a year, or even semi-annually. If the organization gives out financial aid and you are eligible for it, don’t hesitate to apply.

Remembering to keep your options open and think about online school open may be the best thing you can do for yourself. Even with the assistance of your financial aid office, don’t forget there are hundreds of other student loans opportunities that you can search for online in your free time.

Attend Vocational Programs To Boost Your Experience!

Sunday, June 6th, 2010

It’s now turning into old news that the cost of education has been escalating so fast it actually is outstripping the rate of inflation. It is making many wonder if they can do anything to further their lot by going for higher education. One way they are getting around this is by going for a vocational degree as opposed to the more traditional two to four year degree. Find out more about online master degree.

Probably the biggest reason is they want to earn more than McJob money as quickly as they can. Getting a vocational certificate is one of the shortest ways to do this outside of joining the military. Also, the career they are interested in, such as many technician and/or medical assistant positions, don’t require two to four year degrees anyway.

Furthermore, college graduates who can couple a degree with some work experience may be more likely to land high-paying positions. However, some students may not be able to leave their current jobs to take on an internship. See more about master degrees online.

How vocational tracks counter this is that there are a number of courses out there that complement the job. Also, many online and brick-and-mortar schools incorporate hands-on experience into the curriculum. This can enable degree seekers to get education and experience in one fell swoop. These tracks are often ideal for students who know exactly what they want to do for the rest of their life, and want to get to their career as quickly as they can.

Vocational degree programs typically take between 16 and 24 months to complete. Unlike associates degree programs – which generally require a similar time commitment – these courses of study focus on a particular craft or trade and eliminate prerequisite classes. After they earn their degrees, vocational program graduates will have a finely tuned skill set and will likely be qualified to begin working immediately.

The payoff for this kind of education is someone with a vocational certificate almost always needs less training time when they are hired by a recruiter. Thanks to lab time, they already have hands-on experience, so job orientation is a lot shorter.

Another group of people who could benefit from vocational schooling are those who have been in the field for a while but never had formal training. These can range anywhere from wrench jockeys who first got their job when certification wasn’t needed to those who have fallen behind the times. They realize they are being held back because of their lack of knowledge. By getting that new certification they are now much more up-to-date. It also doesn’t hurt that an incredible number of virtual schools offer video courses and drill programs for a number of certification exams, too.

What ends up happening is those with an online degree have a real head start on others who want to work in the same field. Starting with an associate degree program, the sky is the limit as to what an individual wants to accomplish.

An Online College Degree Can Improve Your Career!

Saturday, June 5th, 2010

Due to the economic downturn, many individuals are looking for ways to enhance their educational qualifications. Adding new skills can help someone earn a promotion or launch a new career. However, many of today’s students have a great deal of personal, family and professional responsibilities that could lead them to believe they cannot commit to a college degree program. There are ways to make college fit into a busy lifestyle.

Colleges and universities recognize time challenges and are working to make programs more flexible. Many schools are offering accelerated associates degree programs. These shorter degree paths better allow people to maintain their responsibilities while they get their education. If you need more information about masters degrees online, look on the internet.

An associates degree typically takes two years to complete. However, many schools are changing associates degree programs to allow students to finish in one year. How? The colleges are allowing students to transfer their advanced placement credits or take college level courses while they are still in high school. For a working person, professional experience may qualify as advanced placement to earn them college credit. Or in the case of a high school student, they can begin working on their college degree before they even graduate from high school.

While a bachelors degree program gives students the basics of math, English and science before they declare a major, an associates degree program concentrates on a more specific topic from the start. These degrees work well for the student who already knows what career they want to pursue. The shorter degree program can put the student into the working world years before their peers.

If an associates degree holder decided to get a bachelors degree, the credits from their two year program can be transferred. An associates degree requires, on average, 60 credit hours. Once complete, the associate degree holder is more than half way to their goal of earning a bachelors degree. The average bachelors degree program requires 96 hours of college credit.

An online associates degree program may suit the student who has been out of school for a while because of the flexibility. The fully online format allows the student to access lectures, notes and assignments from any computer. That means the student is not limited to a certain class time or location. This puts the student in control of their education. There is an abundance of information about bachelor of science on the web.

Although education is a key factor to success in many industries, several career savvy individuals have discovered that an efficient associates degree program is right for them. These programs can appeal to a great deal of professionals, ranging from ambitious students who are sure of their career path to workers who wish to learn new skills in their spare time.

In any case, online college can make associates degree holders feel confident they are taking a step in the right direction. Whether they are launching a new career or gearing up for bachelor or online masters degrees a better education can put anyone on the road to a better job.

Improve Your Earning Power With Online Courses!

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

When going for an advanced education, there are those who really don’t need a bachelor’s degree. This does not mean they should not be considered skilled professionals. As it happens, there are a number of careers out there where all one needs is an associate’s degree at most. What’s also interesting is that many of these occupations are some of the most in-demand careers in the U.S.

For instance, there’s massage therapy. It’s a job for those who don’t mind a seriously hands-on approach to working with people. It’s a field full of misconceptions, as it is a very physical type of job that can leave the therapist quite exhausted after a session. It’s also one that involves a lot of discipline as it’s a highly intimate form or therapy that still requires a special sense of emotional detachment. At the same time, a patient’s appreciation for relieving their pain can also be quite gratifying. If you need more information about graduate degree programs, look on the internet.

Interestingly, most people think this is the type of profession that can only be taught at a brick-and-mortar school. As it turns out, there are a number of online schools that offer the courses as well. The virtual schools get around things by offering video, audio and perhaps even live interactions over Skype (a web-based platform). True, sooner or later one will have to practice on real people. Then again, try to find a person who won’t enjoy a good back or foot message!

In regards to wages, the job usually pays hourly or by session. The Bureau of Labor Statistics states the average masseur makes $16.00 an hour. Top ones can earn $25 an hour and quite a bit more if they manage to network with the right people. What is also helping the occupation considerably is the general populace is becoming more and more engaged in the field as their interest in alternative therapy grows.

Another thing the Bureau recently reported is message therapy is one of the fastest growing occupations in the U.S. There currently are 122,000 licensed therapists in the country and the Bureau projects the need for an additional 23,000 by 2018. It also notes that most masseurs are freelancers, but over 40% of them are now being employed by a number of health care institutions.

Getting back to the concept of a getting an education in a vocational field, it should be noted this is something that can be mixed and matched into a more white-collar occupation. There are a number of psychologists who have learned message therapy as a way to enhance their practice. After all, it’s a good way to relieve stress for a number of their patients. There is an abundance of information about online courses on the web.

What this all leads to is there are a wide variety of vocations that can be profitable for those who don’t want to go for a full four year educational program or someone who is looking for a creative way to expand beyond what they’ve already learned.

The key thing is there are a number of vocational online programs offered at both online certificate course programs and brick-and-mortar schools, and with some planning and initiative they can end up becoming satisfying careers.
