Helpful Tips On Earning Your College Degree Online!

Wednesday, September 21st, 2011

A college degree requires an ample investment of time and finances, most of us are aware of that fact. Deciding to become a college student is a serious decision that requires a lot of thought on your part. However, if you’re in the process of deciding whether you want to go back to school or not, I can tell you firsthand that it’s definitely not a decision that I’ve ever regretted. I’m someone who has spent plenty of time on college campuses!

I’m actually a college student as we speak. Believe it or not, I’m in the process of earning my second degree. I’ve been in college for six years now, so I’m what you could call a professional student. Let me share some lessons with you that might make your college experience just a little bit easier. Learning from someone who has already been there is usually the best way to figure things out. It would be wise to learn more about online Bachelors since it may really help you in the long run.

College is about following your passions, and if you’re studying a subject that leaves you feeling less than thrilled, you might have a problem. The easiest way to explain it is that if it’s boring today, that fact isn’t going to suddenly change in a semester or two. Several years down the line, you’re likely going to find the subject just as tedious and awful as you did when you first started.

Unfortunately, that rule has a tendency to apply to all degrees – not just undergraduate degrees, either. I’ve heard far too many horror stories from students who just plowed through their degrees, ignoring the tingling feeling at the back of their heads that told them this wasn’t actually the subject for them. Fortunately, you’ll find that studying something you’re interested in has this strange effect of making college as a whole more interesting. When what you’re learning about is exciting, you’ll find that it’s even easier to focus on your studies – rule number two for being successful in college!

Life has a sneaky way of taking priority over homework (especially when your homework is a little less than thrilling.) Between parties, working and just general busyness, school can seem like it’s not that important. Here’s a piece of advice, though: if you’re truly serious about wanting to earn your college degree, you need to get serious about your studies because the two go hand in hand. It is important that you know more about Bachelor degree if a degree is something that you want to earn.

So, as long as you’re focusing on your studies and studying something you’re interested in, it’s time for the final step: speak to an advisor. I don’t mean having one meeting when you start your college career. I mean speaking to an advisor on a regular basis throughout the entirety of the time you’re enrolled in school – whether it be a two-year associates degree, a four-year bachelors degree or even graduate work.

Seeing an advisor is so important, especially so you don’t end up like me. Instead of graduating on time, I spent an additional semester in school taking a music theory class that was mandatory for my graduation because I was short two college credit hours. I was kicking myself and definitely wishing I had spoken to an advisor earlier! If you want to be a part of the large percentage of college students who graduate with their degree – a number that can sometimes be as high as 97% – speaking to an advisor is imperative!

A college career that runs smoothly from enrollment to graduation is the best kind of college career. Learn from the experiences of others in order to make sure that your experience is the best. Register for a course online and keep these three rules first and foremost in your mind. Check out Education Connection Online for more info on this!

Distance Doesn’t Mean A Stop To Learning With Online College!

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

About half of all Americans who enroll in college never complete the program, according to the Lumina Foundation of Education. Some states have recently begun working to improve college graduation rates. What’s also working well are college distance learning classes for students who cannot attend a traditional campus.

Representatives from 17 states have formed an alliance, Complete College America, whereby they plan to work with colleges and universities to help improve graduation rates, according to a March 2010 Associate Press report. High schools in seven states plan to next year allow 10th grade students to take exams that would allow them to earn their diplomas immediately and move on to community college, a report in The New York Times noted. Those who didn’t succeed would better understand college expectations and be able to retest in their junior and senior years, The New York Times article reported. If you need more information about bachelor’s degree online, look on the internet.

The U.S. Department of Education has identified full-time jobs, delayed college entry, dependants and alternative high school credentials as being among the college completion risk factors, according to the Pew Research Center. A student’s single parent and financially independent status can also make a difference, the 2002 research center information suggests. At the time, African-American and Hispanic undergraduates reportedly maintained more of these risk factors than white undergraduates did.

More recently, the National Center for Education Statistics has reported that the percentage of Hispanic students particularly has been increasing. An American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy report noted that 51 percent of Hispanics at the average college or university complete a bachelor’s degree in six years as compared with 59 percent of white students who do, the “Rising to the Challenge” report noted.

Likewise, online college classes tend to appeal to adults, according to the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning, and online college enrollment numbers also have been rising. Online college enrollment for fall 2008 had increased by 17 percent over the previous year, with 4.6 million students (one-quarter of all college students) taking at least one online college class, a Sloan Consortium study noted. One study dating back to 2000 found that online college drop out rates can extend beyond 40 percent at some institutions, according to a report from the United States Distance Learning Association. Students who enroll in online college programs because they’re too busy for classroom courses might nevertheless have a hard time keeping up with their studies, reports in the Chronicle of Higher Education and USA Today noted.

Rising to the Challenge recommends that colleges and universities focus on and commit to high levels of retention and completion; that they provide Hispanic students with better consumer information, including information about schools within their academic and financial reach and schools with successful Hispanic student track records; that they improve financial aid counseling; and that they encourage students to attend more selective schools, if they qualify. The report also recommends tying university aid to school performance standards, including student graduation and labor-market success, rather than on enrollment.

It’s becoming increasingly unusual for students to enroll at one institution and remain there for their entire college education, the American Council on Education has reported, attributing this in part to working adults who return to school. More than one-half of bachelor’s degree recipients attend more than one institution and are in some instances taking classes at two different institutions simultaneously or moving among multiple institutions, with non-enrollment intervals in between, the council noted. Online college studies have shown a strong relationship between self-motivation and academic persistence, according to the Distance Learning Association report. Studies and reports have also suggested that successful distance learning programs are strongly tied to instructors, including those who maintain personal contact with students, provide quick responses to their questions and concerns, advise them in advance what’s required of coursework, offer interactive elements such as message boards, and provide flexible course formats that better enable students to juggle their studies with work and family responsibilities. There is an abundance of information about online master’s degrees on the web.

Colleges, universities and non-profit organizations such as the Lumina Foundation and the National Association of System Heads have, like states, been making strides to improve college graduation rates. One university in Texas has long offered an online bachelor’s degree program that it touts as a degree completion program and that reportedly provides as many as 59 hours of college credit for technical and experiential credit. A community college and a university in Arizona have more recently begun working together to point students toward coursework that’s required for certain degrees, to guarantee these students university admission and to make them eligible for limits on annual tuition increases, according to a March report in the Sierra Vista Herald. A California college is working to add a personal touch to online classes by employing a program that allows professors to deliver lessons and messages to students with Webcam video recordings and to use the service, Skype, for live, video conversations with students, the USA Today article reported.

Attending online college classes works on many levels. Those with degrees who are returning for their online bachelors degrees will find they have the tools they need to make the career leap they seek.

Get Your Online College Degree And Move Into An Exciting New Career

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

The job market in today’s economy has become more competitive than ever before. People who have been a part of the working world for decades, as well as students looking to enter the career world for the first time, are discovering the importance of having the best education available to them.

Many nontraditional students, however, are unable to invest the time and money required to complete a conventional degree program at a brick-and-mortar institution. Consequently, many campus-based and online universities are developing convenient and affordable degree programs that provide working adults and students with more career boosting options than ever. This is to answer the need of the busy individual today and their Bachelor Degree requirements.

Additionally, many institutions and government officials are working to ensure the education sector is accessible to students of all ages, backgrounds and levels of experience. To address this issue, the TIAA-CREF Institute, an organization that supports developments in higher education and financial security, recently held its 2009 Higher Education Leadership Conference.

At the event, higher education professionals proposed solutions to the barriers facing individuals who wish to pursue post-secondary education in light of the current state of the economy. Madeleine D’Ambrosio, the organization’s vice president and executive director, said colleges and universities will need to focus on “enrollment, affordability and fund-raising” to cater to today’s busy students. This may also be the area where Bachelors Degree assistance comes to the forefront.

A presentation focusing on college-prep classes for high school students proposed that instead of the tradition 12th grade year, high school students would follow their junior year with a year of college-level programming. This would transition students from traditional high school classes to more work-intensive college courses.

Often, college students have a difficult time completing their degree programs and obtaining employment in a timely manner. Other responsibilities are shuffled to first priority, and education often gets swept aside or postponed for an indefinite period of time.

As higher education providers work to achieve these goals, working adults who enroll in on-campus or online colleges to pursue associate, bachelor or master’s degree programs will have several options through which they can obtain marketable skills. Your newly acquired Online College Degree starts the fulfillment of your fondest dreams for an exciting, well-paying career.

During the conference, many education experts agreed that Online College Degree programs will play a large role in students starting their career. Schools online are more popular now, allowing individuals to achieve a Bachelor Degree or other accreditation and the demand for a convenient education with flexible timing is extremely high.
