The Legend That Is Bill Gates

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

Bill Gates isn’t exactly the most popular man in America. In fact, a lot of people hate him. Are you a Bill Gates hater?

If you are, you might want to rethink that position. Bill Gates is a very generous man and does great things in the world. Do you know how much money his foundation, The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, donates to different causes every year? Try 1.5 billion dollars. You have to admit, that is a number that boggles the mind. That is how much he gives away, every single year.

Bill Gates used to be with Microsoft of course, but he recently retired. He decided to retire so that he could spend his life doing charitable work through his foundation. Despite all this, some people who are the type to be negative and judgmental still think he’s an asshole.

Before we point the finger at Microsoft, let’s be honest. Microsoft isn’t perfect. Still, it’s not nearly so evil as a lot of other companies in corporate America.

Bottom line is that you have to respect Microsoft and Bill Gates. Mr. Gates is a huge success and there’s no arguing with how much good he’s done with his money. He made all of that from nothing too which is very impressive.

Everyone who hates on Bill Gates needs to quit being so nave. If he hadn’t started out taking, and making his fortune, he would have had nothing to give! If you give a hundred percent of nothing, that’s still nothing. It would not have been better for anyone had he not been ambitious.

Bill Gates is a smart guy, and knew that to achieve his aims he had to become a success. He became someone who could make a real difference. If you are sitting around complaining about Bill Gates and all of his riches, stop for a minute and think. He does a lot of good in the world. How much good are you doing on a regular basis?

Do you contribute to AIDS research? Work to reduce world hunger? Bill Gates does. He dedicates his life to making the lives of others better.

You only hurt yourself when you resent others’ successes. If you believe that rich people get rich because they are greedy and crooked, what does that say about your chances of becoming wealthy? If you think you are a good person, and rich people are bad people, you aren’t likely to become rich.

Making Sure Your Voice Mail Gets The Message Across

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

Trying to remember a time before we had voicemail isn’t easy to do. It seems like it has been around forever. Prior to voicemail people relied on answering machines to deliver the phone messages that had been missed for whatever reason.

If someone tried to call you when you weren’t home you would never know it without an answering machine or voicemail. While voicemail and answering machines are a good thing they can also be seen as something that has made your friends seem like robots on the other end of the line.

These machines have become necessary evils for many almost all of us. We can’t be by our phones every second of the day and these devices make it possible for someone to leave you a message and for you to get the message. It alleviates the person leaving the message from having to keep trying to call just to get the message across.

Just because leaving messages and making voicemail recordings has been around for a while doesn’t mean that people don’t make mistakes. A quick lesson in voicemail etiquette is good for everyone to have.

Many people really over think the whole idea of leaving a message. It’s not a formal speech. All you want to do is leave a short message that is to the point and simple. Whatever you do don’t just hang up. That is considered very bad etiquette.

Leaving a message is both easy and considerate. It quickly informs the other person why you were calling.

If you find that your friends or colleagues rarely leave messages, take a few minutes to listen to your outgoing message.

An outgoing message should be short and to the point, so that others quickly know that they reached the right person.

If you are tempted to create a funny or cute outgoing message, think this through very carefully. The novelty of this wore off years ago.
