Printing Services – Through The Years

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

The popularity of print medium as an efficient means of disseminating information to several different kinds of people is great & famous even in the nowadays. The current form of the printing services industry is a result of years of change & evolution in printing styles & techniques. Today it can address almost any need of the clients associated with printing & its ancillary requirements.

Bulk printing services first began sometime in the–00\’s when Gutenberg invented the world\’s first printing press and the whole concept of relief printing came into being. In relief printing the printed matter appears elevated from the background, just as you see in a rubber stamp. Relief printing is rarely in use nowadays, though there are still some situations where it is used.

Printing methods have changed radically down the years, and these transformations have been brought about by upcoming of newer technologies. Modern printing techniques have developed to a great extent, and each technique has its own uses. Most customers are in fact bewildered by the abundance of printing choices available to them.

Offset printing is a popular printing technique preferred by most printers these days. In this technique, minimum ink is used to print the image, which is first applied on metal plates and is then transferred onto paper. This method is most suitable for mass printing, as it is both faster and lesser expensive than other techniques in the market.

Other printing techniques that have evolved with progress in technology are electrostatic printing, which resembles photocopying, and thermal printing, which uses a system of selective heating of layered thermal paper.

However, the newest revolution in printing industry is digital printing. As the name tells you, in this method, images are digitally created on a computer, which are then checked for accuracy and are finally printed. This method is flawless and quick, but it is appropriate only for a restricted number of prints. As this technique allows every single print to be customized it has resulted in some novel uses like computer form printing, where documents like bills and receipts are printed on a fixed format but with differing contents for each client.

Printing services took another leap when the world wide web started gaining popularity. Most printing firms run their own websites that allow clients to conveniently place orders and check out designs and templates, without them having to go all the way to the firm\’s premises for this purpose.

Technological innovations have always brought about significant positive changes in printing methods and the quality of the prints. The best part about this trend is that it will stay on track well into the future and keep improving the performance and cost effectiveness of printing services.

Offset printing these days is still the cheapest and best quality printing process. Lazer printing is good for small quantities l but the quality lags way behind offset printing. It is important though if you do not know much about printing to learn some key tips before venturing into the waters with offset printers. Printing is a technical field and can sometimes be a mine field if you get things wrong!

The prints from offset printing are of better quality than those from ordinary lithographic printing. Nowadays, any good printing company provides offset printing services and you can easily find a good quality offset printer around your area.

Offset printing is generally costlier than digital printing services for lesser volumes and this is because it requires a lot of work even before the first sheet of paper is printed. However, if you require printing done in huge volumes, then offset printing can turn out to be fairly in expensive. The running cost of offset printing is low and it makes up for the set up cost that is significantly higher. So, as far as bigger volumes of printing are in question, offset printing is the best option.

Picking an offset printing company should be done on the premise of some key considerations. Offset printing extends a lot of options that can leave a layman totally confused as this technology differs a lot from the much easier digital printing. Technical support is a necessity to help you with the technical specifications of offset printing. So the printing company that you select to work with should be able to offer such support.

Further, you should also ask the printing company to let you avail additional printing services such as getting design recommendations for your print jobs, and letting you view a sample before the final large scale printing begins. Lastly, for you to be able to use the printing company on a regular basis, the company must provide you reasonable prices, which fall well within your printing budget.

So be careful before you leap in – learn as much as possible and remember – your printer is there to help you so ask them. Most will be helpful to a new comer to the field.

Paper Bag Printing: Amazing Designs

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

With the increasing ecological awareness, businesses are greatly choosing paper bags when they sell their products at their retail shops. These bags are not only friendly to the environment but also more affordable than other products for production and printing.

Paper bag printing is a creative art by itself, and several printing services firms across the world have gained proficiency in it and are now exceeding customers\’ expectations. Traditionally, paper bags used to be simple brown bags without any design whatsoever and were used in grocery stores. But modern variants of these bags are sturdier and classier in features and looks.

One has to focus on several design components of a paper bag before sending it for printing. The aim of the bag is a major factor that will decide your selection of paper type, as the last thing you would want is a bag which gives way if the product inside it is slightly heavy.

Once the kind of paper has been decided, you have to pick the colours that will be employed for the graphic to be displayed on the bag. Many colours do not go with each other and if you are thinking of using the paper bag for marketing purposes, then it is absolutely essential that the colours are just right so that the final outcome appeals to the customers.

The third design aspect in paper bag printing is achieving that delicate balance between making the bag eye-catching yet highly functional. The size, form, and other design elements of the paper bag will be based on people who will use the bag and the type of items that they will carry inside it, whether it is big and heavy or small and light. If the customer is going to carry a box of shoes in the bag, the company can have the bag equipped with attractive rope handles that are both cheap and are convenient for the buyer to carry the shoes.

You may also look for designs in the net. You can learn important infos regarding the materials to be used, hints in creating a durable paper bags, and other designing tips. Then, utilize your creativeness to make the most beautiful design for the paper bag.

As paper bags are very inexpensive, the design on the bag should not cost you a large amount either, but it must be sophisticated at the same time. Besides, the entire process of printing must in no way harm the environment at any step, so that the eco-friendly image of the bags can be retained.

Finally, you have to carefully and strategically think about what type of message you would wish the paper bag to display. Most printing services firms realize its importance and so they will be able to provide valuable suggestions in this regard. But you must ensure that the message is in line with your company\’s brand image and is always accompanied with the logo of your company.

The Process Of Brochure Printing Then And Now

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

Circulating brochures has always been an effective marketing strategy for any business. They can be distributed like leaflets or mailed at customers\’ addresses, or can just be stacked in retail outlets for clients to take with them. The demand for brochures and their printing has led many printing services firms to concentrate solely on this market. Brochure printing has undergone a number of advancements in recent decades, with the advent and increasing use of the internet triggering the most recent of these developments.

Until just a few years back, computers were rarely used in the brochure printing process, which took many days, working with film negatives or plate-making machines and needed multiple test prints, rounds of fine tuning etc. Even in design, the clients could not provide detailed suggestions and the printers mostly shouldered the design job, working with a limited set of pre decided formats.

These days, the customer from his office can himself format the brochure and transfer it online to the printing firm, and he also doesn\’t have to wait for days for the end product to be delivered to him. With technology progressing rapidly, fast printing of numerous brochures and their quick supply within a day\’s time has become a reality.

One should not forget that brochure printing involves cautious consideration of aspects like content, design and formatting. The use of digital technology in the printing process has revolutionised these aspects, providing a plethora of options, including higher quality full-colour printing, advanced and complex layout options, and content-building packages.

Amongst the several advanced options provided by printing services providers, digital brochures and full-colour brochures are most in demand. Such brochures are suitable for distribution for medium or longer time spans. Vibrant and eye-catching but concise brochures are suitable for short-term circulation in massive volumes, which are printed through a restricted print run. The conventional technique of off-set printing is still well suited for such brochures, as bulk prints within a short time is achievable, though making of brochures takes a longer time in this process.

Nowadays brochure printing companies also offer ancillary services besides ensuring superior quality of prints for their customers. These include distribution, direct mailing, designing, and many more.

Perhaps the most important advancement in brochure printing has been the internet, through which clients look for and obtain printing services, place orders, view templates, and choose the configurations for the print order. Hence, brochure printing has changed a lot in a relatively short time, and the pace of advancements is showing no signs of slowing down.

Technology makes brochure printing as easy as possible. Thus, take advantage of what technology can provide and enhance your creativeness to be competitive in brochure printing.

Printing Services: Now And Then

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

Print medium even in this age is a very sought after mode of disseminating information to a wide range of people. The present form of the printing services industry is a result of years of change and evolution in printing styles and processes. Today it can address almost any need of the clients related to printing and its supplementary requirements.

Large volume printing services through relief printing technology originated during the–00\’s when the world\’s first printing press was invented by Gutenberg. A slight projection of the printed matter from the base, like it is in a rubber stamp, is a key characteristic of relief printing. This kind of printing has however gone almost out of use these days, though not completely dead.

Printing methods have changed greatly down the years, and these transformations have been brought about by introduction of latest technologies. Modern printing techniques have advanced to a great extent, and each method has its own uses. In fact, most clients now feel puzzled with the printing choices available in the market.

One of the most well known printing methods in the industry today is offset printing. In this method, limited ink is used to print the matter, which is first put on metal plates and is then transferred onto paper. This method is most suitable for mass printing, as it is both faster and lesser expensive than other techniques in the market.

Other printing methods that have evolved with progress in technology are electrostatic printing, which resembles photocopying, and thermal printing, which follows a procedure of selective heating of layered thermal paper.

However, digital printing is the newest printing method that is drawing a lot of attention. As is evident from its name, it includes image development and editing on a computer, and then this computer generated image is finally printed after review. This mode is fast and error free, but is appropriate most of the times for limited prints. As this technique allows each print to be customized it has resulted in some innovative uses like computer form printing, where items like invoices and receipts are printed on a standard format but with differing contents for each customer.

Another important evolution in printing has taken place with the arrival of the internet. Printing service providers have their commercial websites that clients can visit from the comfort of their homes or offices and register orders after seeing online printing samples.

Printing has always taken quantum evolutionary jumps with the advancement in technology. The best thing about this trend is that it will stay on track well into the future and keep improving the performance and cost effectiveness of printing services.

Helpful Points In Brochure Printing

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

Brochures play a vital role in the promotion of a business. They contain essential information about a business like its offerings and their advantages over the competition, its key features, its contact information, and so on, therefore lending credibility to it in the marketplace. A badly made brochure can cause irreparable damage to the reputation of the company and thus it is very important to take considerable degree of care and attention while developing it. As you proceed with this article, you will get some valuable information on several aspects of brochure printing and design.

The design process of a brochure must ensure that the end result looks professional, provides information in a clear and brief fashion, and is attractive to the target audience. It should use text and graphics in the correct combination, while the colours should also be used carefully. All the ingredients like fonts, borders, images etc. should fuse perfectly. In addition to being coherent and easy to follow, the brochure must also be good looking and not jumbled and messy.

While developing the brochure, issues related to brochure printing should also be thought about in detail. It is suggested to get a sample output of the designed brochure to get a feel of how the printed brochure will appear before sending it for a mass print job.

The design should be created keeping in mind the brochure printing fund allocation. In case you have a constrained budget, you can always fall back on black and white printing as it is much less expensive than colour printing. However, if budget is not a problem and if vibrant and colorful brochures are what you seek, then thick and shiny papers should be chosen for good looking prints. A compact brochure which requires double sided printing will need an adequately thick paper for printing.

Since brochure printing is done in bulk, always ask for rebates from the printing company. However, never compromise on quality, as you do not want to create a poor impression of your business on prospective customers.

Offset Printing: How Does It Operate?

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

Many significant operations in a business such as maintaining flow of information within the company and marketing the products of the company need printing service. Hence it is helpful to know about the basic working of the frequently used printing process called offset printing.

Offset printing is so popular among printing service providers and clients because for large volumes, it is more economical than other options. The customers giving big printing orders are recommended by the printers to opt for offset printing due to this reason.

This printing technique uses oil-based ink, which is not soluble in water. In offset printing, rubber blankets act as intermediate for copying the image on the paper, which is originally on the plate.

First step is to prepare the graphics. Film negatives were used in the past for making images and then copying them to aluminum based printing plates. This is no longer required as the technology is available for making the plates in one step through an image setting system. This plate is then placed on a cylinder in the proper configuration. Then the water and ink are dispersed on the image plates, in that order. While the ink gets fixed to the image, the water gets attached to that part of the plate which has no image so that the ink does not spill beyond the image.

The image is then taken from the plates to the rubber blanket rolled on another cylinder, so that it is inverted. After that, sheets of paper of required proportions are put together and the rubber blankets transmit the image to the sheets on a third cylinder, where it comes out as the right side.

The task of printing is finished by the printing company by consolidating the printed sheets using staples or paste or in any other way as per the requirements of the client.

Most usual form of offset printing is came from the photo offset procedure, which uses photosensitive chemicals and photographic techniques to transmit images and type from original materials to printing plates. The master copy may be the actual photographic print and typeset text. With the presence of computers and digital images, master copy are now data in a digital publishing system.
