The Different Types Of T Shirt Printing

Wednesday, October 6th, 2010

With the advancements in technology that we have, there are diverse forms of t shirt printing available nowadays. Listed below are the 3 most popular kinds and how they differ from each other.

T Shirt Printing Via Screen Printing

Utilising a screen, ink filtered out goes to the parts that have to be printed on. This process necessitates the use of a stencil made of a non-permeable material which is the negative of the design. With the ink not going to the parts where it should not be, a clean effect is then attained.

Screen printing is the most common kind of T shirt printing for the reason that the stencil can still be used repeatedly, with printed shirts to be mass produced. Not only does this technique can be utilized on shirts, but also on jackets, sweaters, caps or canvass bags.

T Shirt Printing Using Direct To Garment Printing

With this method, multi-color images are created on the article utilizing a special kind of printer. The same approach is done when paper is printed on using an inkjet printer. Unlike when using screen printing, more colors and hues can be applied here. Moreover, this is the way to go when printing in huge quantities because it has the capability to render the requirements in a more efficient way.

T Shirt Printing Utilising Heat Transfer

Heat transfer is done by utilizing heat to create a design on the shirt. The design is printed on a carrier paper which is a special kind of paper and then put on the predetermined spot on the shirt. Subsequently, heat pressure is given on the special paper that transfers the ink to the shirt. On-site or rush projects can be accommodated by the heat transfer method because of its ease of availability even in malls.

The above techniques are, generally, considered proven already. The choice of what T shirt printing kind to employ depends on your preferred output quantity and quality of the design.

What is the Process Known as Screen Printing?

Saturday, May 8th, 2010

Silk screen printing process is an laborious task that dates back as far as the Song Dynasty in Mainland china (960-1279 AD). It is called silkscreening because in the 1960′s printers used silk as the ‘mesh’ which the ink came through before being transferred onto the material. Silk screen printing has retained the name even though polyester is now primarily used instead of silk as the mesh screen. It is also known as screen printing or serigraphy.

First, a frame of wood or aluminum is constructed, to which the mesh is attached. The stencil is made of a material that the ink cannot seep through, and is the negative, or opposite, of what will show on the material the ink will be transposed to,paper, cloth, or some other material or promotional items. The mesh is either made of man-made materials such as polyester, nylon, or steel. Next, the stencil is placed on top of the mesh. The screen is now placed on the cloth or paper, also called the substrate.

Next the ink is put on the bottom of the negative part of the mesh and transposed to the substrate. This is achieved by running a fill bar, also known as a floodbar, across the screen starting from the bottom, and moving the bar gently to the top. Now the operator will move the fill bar in the opposite direction, using a slightly different technique.

This process can be used on branded t/shirts and also other garments and substrates. The screen is raised to avoid contact with the item to be printed, and with some pressure the fill bar is pulled back across the template forcing the ink into areas missed upon the first pass.

The last process performed in the frame is done by use of a squeegee. This rubber blade is moved across the template, forcing the ink in a uniformed fashion, into the substrate.

This makes sure that the ink being printed onto the substrate is the same thickness as the mesh and/or stencil. As the squeegee moves across the frame the mesh pulls away from the substrate. If everything has been done properly, this ‘snap off’ leaves the ink on the promotional items or substrate in the design of the stencil. For multi-colored prints, the darker colors are used first, and the lighter colors, applied in the same fashion, are silkscreened on top of the darker colors.

The ‘Flat-bed’ (probably the most popular and the one just explained), the ‘cylinder’, and the ‘rotary’ are the three types of screenprinting presses being used today. The screen used for the stencil can be cleaned and re-used with the same stencil. If the stencil is no longer used, there is a more exhaustive process used to clean the screen.

Although silkscreening is used primarily for clothing, there are many other materials and promotional items that can be employed, such as personalised pens, balloons, and more recently, in the technical field, to lay down conductors and resistors. There are literally thousands of materials that can be silk screen printed.

Corporate Gift Suggestion: Pens

Friday, January 29th, 2010

Pens are small, fairly cheap but in respect to using them for gifts they do not get thrown away till they have been fully used, giving them a life of 1 – 2 months depending on usage. Because of this versatility they are a perfect gift.

Pen manufacturers would agree that the most common ink colour these days is black ballpoint. When you are looking for advertising exposure the black ballpoint pen cannot easily be beaten for dollar for dollar advertising and market exposure value. They keep you front of mind with your clients every day when you add your branding or unique company features the pen.

Black ballpoint pens are the most preferred amongst sales people and office workers but blue is next in line in popularity. Odd and interesting colours such as orange or pink can also be used, but are of little usability. They\’re best for party-hire companies or children\’s wear businesses. After all you are giving a very practical gift so it may be better to stick with blue of black ink.

When it comes to the exterior body of a pen imagination is the only limit. And as long as the pen is still usable practically as a pen, then you would still achieve your exposure goals.

For the body of the pen you should first focus on the company information you want to add and then consider the design of the body next. If you do not do this you may end up choosing a physical design that you cannot add the info you want which would defeat the original purpose.

Quality looking pens will be used by more people than cheap looking ones, so do not go too cheap when it comes to the body of the pen. Also do not use the cheapest pen interior. A lot of us has thrown away a pen in frustration because a pen does not work when we tried using it. This experience can then leave the person reflecting the quality of the pen on your company which is not good or what you intended.

Good corporate gift suppliers should be able to not only purchase the pens you want in the bulks you require, but also be able to consult you on some of the pen body design and quality aspects that we have covered.

Screen Printing Tshirts So You Can Use As A Corporate Gift

Friday, January 29th, 2010

Printing is a process of creating images and text, commonly utilizing ink, paper and a printing press. Over time, printing technology has developed significantly. Diverse techniques are available, but screen-printing is used most of the time.

Screen-printing, or silk-screening, is a process ideally used on fairly flat surfaces. In this procedure, a fine mesh screen is secured snugly across a sturdy frame, with the screen masking the region which remains unprinted. To make the print, the screen is positioned atop the material along with a swath of dense ink. Using a squeegee tool, the ink is pushed through the screen part. The ink soaks into the region that is not masked, forming the print, while the masking keeps any ink from making contact, resulting in distinguished areas. Next the printed material goes through a hot passageway until the ink dries and it is ready to be packed up.

When more than one color is involved, the process is repeated, utilizing different screens. So, four screens would be necessary for a four-color print; they can be placed on a rotary press or done by hand, allowing each color to print in its proper place.

There are several methods of masking a screen. The easiest thing to do is to employ masking fluid right onto the screen. This process works very well for two-color graphics, while a photosensitive emulsion process is utilized for jobs involving multiple colors.

If you are unsure what to request when ordering, remember that a screen printer\’s t-shirt printed with ink with plastics will be hot and tacky afterwards. It might be wise to request water-based inks if you prefer a softer, vintage-look screen printed shirt. But if you are interested in a heavily laid print, you should request ink containing plastics to be applied with a hot press.

Inks containing plastics are used by many screen printers because sometimes they last longer, are richer, heavier and more easily seen, not to mention being easier on the screen printing equipment. Within a short time frame, plastic inks can begin to crack up, though. Natural inks last longer and they look better too.
